It’s thursday and I’m wearing shirt number four in the week of tees. This one’s a Plantain shirt again, in the loveliest shade of blue.
Funny story about this fabric: It began its life as a scarf. A super soft and beautiful circle scarf whose only faults were its length (too long to actually warm my neck) and its stretchniness (not enough to be shortened).
For far too long, it’s been sitting in my “garments that are not quite right but too pretty to throw away”-pile (come on, we all have one. … Please tell me you have one).
|Pattern:||Plantain T-Shirt by Deer and Doe (free pattern)|
|Fabric:||lightweight knit fabric from my stash – it used to be a scarf; hence the seam in the back|
|Alterations:||– raised the neckline by 1-2 cm|
|Make Again?||Yes! The pattern has became a great staple in my wardrobe.|
I loved the fabric and the colour and the scarf was too beautiful to spend all of its life in my closet. So I just gave it a go and made another Plantain tee. It was just about enough fabric for a tee with 3/4 length sleeves.
While cutting, I realized that the stripes were slightly off grain. But since it was basically free fabric, I didn’t have a lot to lose, so I just cut it anyway. After all, most people will not notice that it falls a little funny and I don’t intend to win any awards with this shirt.
After my success on shirt number two, I made elbow patches for this one, too. They’re from the same fabric, but I changed the direction of the stripes. I expected it them to stand out more, but now they’re just a subtle detail which is fine as well. You can see them in the first two photos of this post.
So, that was shirt number four. I love it so much! I had never expected it to turn out so nice. My original plan was to wear it as a pyjama shirt. But that is not gonna happen. I can already see us rocking summer together!
As for the pyjama shirt: Maybe I should make myself a pair of Carolyn Pajamas after all. Not the worst idea …
But first I’ll show you the fifth and final tee tomorrow.
